MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611107575 A) filed by Gla University, Mathura on September 07, 2026, for Smart Root Zone Monitoring System Using Soil Biosensors.

Inventor includes Dr. Mohammad Yaseen.

The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a smart root-zone monitoring system (100) for monitoring biological, physical and chemical conditions of a crop (101) grown in soil (102). The system comprises one or more soil biosensors/probes (105), auxiliary soil sensors including a moisture sensor (129), EC sensor (130) and temperature sensor (131), a controller unit (109), and a wireless communication module (110). The sensors may be positioned at different root-zone depths through sensing nodes (118), (120), (122) for generating a depth-wise root-zone condition profile. The controller processes sensor measurements to determine soil fertility status (149), root microbial activity (150), moisture availability (151), nutrient deficiency and salinity risk. The system generates irrigation scheduling, fertigation adjustment or soil-health alerts and optionally controls an irrigation unit (104) based on the analyzed root-zone conditions.
