Abstract: The present system discloses a Smart Waste Management System using IoT-enabled bin sensors and machine learning-based route optimization for efficient municipal solid waste collection. The system integrates ultrasonic, weight, gas, temperature, humidity, and GPS sensors within smart waste bins to continuously monitor waste levels, environmental conditions, and bin locations. Sensor data are processed using an edge-cloud collaborative architecture and analyzed through a novel Adaptive Intelligent Waste Collection Optimization Framework (AIWCOF), which predicts future waste accumulation using machine learning techniques. A reinforcement learning-based route optimization engine dynamically determines efficient waste collection routes by considering predicted fill levels, real-time traffic information, vehicle capacity, road conditions, and travel distance. The optimized routes are transmitted to collection vehicles through a GPS-enabled mobile application, while a cloud platform provides dashboards, historical analytics, alerts, and maintenance scheduling. Experimental validation demonstrates a waste collection efficiency of approximately 98.4%, a route reduction of 47%, fuel savings of 42%, overflow detection accuracy of 99.2%, and waste prediction accuracy of 98.1%. The invention is particularly applicable to smart cities, municipalities, university campuses, hospitals, industrial parks, airports, railway stations, and other urban infrastructure requiring intelligent and sustainable waste management.
