Abstract: ABSTRACT The present invention relates to a smartphone-based emergency alert system and method for personal safety. The system comprises a mobile computing device having a processor, memory, positioning module, motion sensor module, audio input module, image capturing module, and communication interface. The system is configured to activate an emergency alert mode in response to at least one emergency activation input including a manual SOS input, predefined voice command, or shake gesture. Upon activation, the system obtains real-time location coordinates of a user, generates an emergency alert message, and transmits the emergency alert message to one or more pre-registered emergency contacts. The system further automatically initiates audio and/or video recording and periodically updates and transmits the user location until the emergency alert mode is deactivated. The invention improves emergency communication, evidence capture, and response reliability during distress.
