The application for the patent was published on August 07, 2026, under issue no. 32/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a cost-effective and environmentally sustainable process for the treatment of copper sulphate -containing acidic wastewater, particularly suitable for agricultural reuse. The process employs a staged mineral–acid buffering mechanism, wherein an alkaline mineral phase comprising wood ash is initially introduced to elevate the pH of wastewater from acidic conditions (approximately pH 3) to mildly alkaline levels (pH 7.5–8), facilitating the precipitation of dissolved copper ions as insoluble hydroxides. Subsequently, an acidic alum solution is added in a controlled manner to reduce the pH to a near-neutral range (pH 6.5–7) while simultaneously inducing coagulation and flocculation of suspended and precipitated particles. The integrated process eliminates the need for external chemical pH adjustment and produces clarified water suitable for irrigation purposes. The system is characterized by low cost, zero-waste generation, and high efficiency in heavy metal removal, making it particularly applicable for decentralized and small-scale wastewater treatment systems.
