Abstract: A homoeopathic medicated mustard oil is prepared by a process in which Thuja occidentalis mother tincture (Q) and mustard oil are taken in the volume ratio of 1 to 9, heated indirectly on a water bath at 95 to 100 degrees C for 10 to 15 minutes with continuous stirring until a clear preparation free of sediment is obtained, cooled to room temperature and filtered. The oil is characterised by its pH of 6.1 to 6.3, its specific gravity of 0.920 to 0.924 and its chromatographic profile, and in the agar well diffusion assay exhibits at 100 microlitres a zone of inhibition of at least 2.3 cm against Staphylococcus aureus and at least 2.4 cm against Escherichia coli, mustard oil alone exhibiting no zone against either organism. The process uses ordinary equipment and a single heating step.
