MUMBAI, India, July 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202617075524 A) filed by Sanyo Special Steel Co. , Ltd. on June 18, 2026, for Steel For Cold Forging/Nitriding Having Excellent Cold Forgeability And Excellent Nitriding Properties, And Cold Forged/Nitrided Component Using Same.
Inventors include Nanba Tsuyoshi; and Tsunekage Norimasa.
The application for the patent was published on July 10, 2026, under issue no. 28/2026.
Abstract: The purpose of the present invention is to provide: a steel for cold forging/nitriding, the steel having excellent cold forgeability and excellent hardness after nitriding; and a cold forged/nitrided component using the same. The present invention provides a steel for cold forging/nitriding, which contains, in mass%, 0.15-0.30% of C, 0.15-0.60% of Si, 0.10-1.50% of Mn, 0.15-2.20% of Cr, 0.02-0.30% of Mo, 0.015-0.300% of Al, 0.05-0.30% of V, 0.004-0.030% of N, 0.00-0.10% of Nb, 0.000-0.200% of Ti, and 0.0000 to 0.0030% of B, with the balance being made up of Fe and inevitable impurities, wherein: the value of 0.10 × [Cr] + 0.67 × [Al] + 0.24 × [V] is more than 0.15 and less than 0.40; the value of Pd = N/L × (1-Sa) is 2.10 or less; the value of 217.2 [Mo] + 61.3 × Pd is 61.0 or more; and the surface hardness is 180 Hv or less in terms of Vickers hardness. The present invention also provides a cold forged/nitrided component using this steel for cold forging/nitriding.
