MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202617095707 A) filed by Bekaert Advanced Cords Aalter Nv on August 07, 2026, for Steel Strand And Belt Reinforced With Said Steel Strand.
Inventors include Vanreyten, Wouter; Rommel, Hendrik; Baekelandt, Tom; and Lampaert, Manuel.
The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.
Abstract: The invention relates to a steel strand and a belt comprising the steel strands. The belt is particularly designed for use as an elevator belt. Such belts are very long and must sustain many cycles. The invention solves the problem that when incorporating the steel strands in belts, the belt does not track well on a crowned pulley and is wavy after removal of the load. This problem is solved with a steel strands having a core, a first layer of steel filaments and a second layer of filaments wherein the total of the angles spanned by the filaments of the second layer with vertex at the centre of the strands is less than 270°. In this manner the contact surface between polymer and steel strand is greatly increased compared to prior art steel strands leading to a better mechanical anchorage and – when an adhesive is used – greatly improved adhesion force;
