Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure are directed to wireless nodes configured to switch between symbol-level and bit-level probabilistic shaping schemes based on mapping between a modulation and coding scheme (MCS) index and one or more probabilistic shaping parameters. For example, a user equipment (UE) may receive, from a network entity, an indication of an MCS to be used for communication between the UE and a wireless node. The indication of the MCS may be mapped to one or more probabilistic shaping parameters associated with one or more probabilistic shaping schemes. Based on the probabilistic shaping parameters, the UE may determine whether to use a symbol-level or a bit-level probabilistic shaping scheme for communication with the network entity.
