Abstract: A cryptographic system (SWOP) for proving temporal ordering of events without a trusted third party. The system comprises: a witness chain wherein each witness W[i] = VDF(H(W[i-1] || H(event[i]))) depends sequentially on the previous witness; a temporal commitment scheme wherein com[i] = g^r ยท H(event[i] || W[i]) cannot be re-dated to a different position (Temporal Non- Transferability); and an order proof system that generates and verifies proofs that one event occurred before another. The system relies on a new hardness assumption (Sequential Dependency Assumption - SDA) and achieves Temporal Irreversibility, making it impossible to forge a valid event history without sequential computation.
