Abstract: The disclosure relates to a method for synchronization in a cell-free massive multiple-input multiple-output system comprising access points connected to at least one central processing unit. The method includes constructing synchronization blocks comprising a central processing unit identifier signal and an access point identifier signal, transmitting the synchronization blocks from access points to user equipment, and detecting the central processing unit identifier signal and access point identifier signal from received synchronization blocks. The method further includes computing a global access point identifier based on the detected signals, wherein the global access point identifier equals a product of a scaling factor and the access point identifier plus the central processing unit identifier. The user equipment performs correction of time and frequency offsets and decodes broadcast information to establish synchronization with the system.
