MUMBAI, India, Aug. 12 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641094155 A) filed by Presidency University on August 04, 2026, for System And Method For Adaptive Underwater Image Enhancement And Coral Classification.
Inventors include J. John Bennet; and Dr. R. Vignesh.
The application for the patent was published on August 07, 2026, under issue no. 32/2026.
Abstract: ABSTRACT System and Method for Adaptive Underwater Image Enhancement and Coral Classification A system and method for adaptive underwater image enhancement and coral classification are disclosed. The system is configured to process underwater coral images affected by degradations including color distortion, haze, turbidity, blur, and low contrast caused by underwater environmental conditions. The system comprises an input module (101), a data pre-processing module (102), an underwater image quality assessment module (103), a multi-branch image enhancement module (104), a coral classification module (105), and a confidence scoring module (106). The underwater image quality assessment module (103) evaluates image degradation parameters and assigns a quality category to the input image. Based on the assigned quality category, the multi-branch image enhancement module (104) selectively applies a suitable enhancement operation. The enhanced image is then processed by the coral classification module (105) to identify coral types, while the confidence scoring module (106) generates a confidence score indicating reliability of the predicted coral classification output.
