MUMBAI, India, July 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641085428 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on July 13, 2026, for System And Method For Ai-Assisted Rider Decision Making Using A Smart Motorcycle Helmet.
Inventors include Praveen T; Vaishnavi R; and Divyadharshini R.
The application for the patent was published on July 17, 2026, under issue no. 29/2026.
Abstract: ABSTRACT The present invention relates to an AI-driven rider decision assistance system implemented in a wearable device, particularly a smart helmet, for enhancing transportation safety through predictive collision prevention and intelligent maneuver guidance. The system integrates multiple sensing devices, Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communication, Vehicular Ad Hoc Networking (VANET), multi-modal sensor fusion, and edge artificial intelligence to generate real-time situational awareness. An AI intelligence engine analyzes rider behavior, head movement, gaze direction, vehicle dynamics, and surrounding traffic conditions to predict intended maneuvers including lane changes, turns, and overtaking actions. A risk assessment module performs trajectory forecasting and calculates collision-risk scores based on cooperative traffic intelligence and predicted vehicle interactions. An intelligent recommendation module determines safer mobility actions and communicates guidance through haptic alerts, voice notifications, and augmented reality visual indicators. The invention transforms conventional wearable safety devices from reactive warning systems into proactive decision-assistance platforms capable of reducing collision risk and improving rider safety.
