MUMBAI, India, June 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411088778 A) filed by Birla Institute Of Technology And Science, Pilani on November 16, 2024, for System And Method For Analyzing Bubble Dynamics In A Photobioreactor.
Inventors include Rupesh Kumar; Vehaan Handa; Sumanth S. V; Nishanth Lanka; Snehanshu Saha; Santonu Sarkar; and Anirban Roy.
The application for the patent was published on June 12, 2026, under issue no. 24/2026.
Abstract: Disclosed is a system for analyzing bubble dynamics in a photobioreactor (110), including an imaging device (106) configured to capture video data of bubbles and a data processing apparatus (104) with processing circuitry (114). The processing circuitry (114) is configured to receive the video data, preprocess it to generate grayscale images, apply adaptive thresholding to generate binary images, perform morphological operations including dilation and erosion, apply edge detection, detect contours to isolate individual bubbles, measure bubble dimensions, and generate a bubble size distribution. The system further includes applying median blurring, performing closing operations, using Canny edge detection, applying contour approximation, fitting bounding rectangles, calculating equivalent diameters, and categorizing bubbles into size ranges. The bubble size distribution is analyzed to determine optimal gas flow rates for maximizing mass transfer in the photobioreactor (110).
