Abstract: ABSTRACT SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR AUTOMATED CONCRETE DEFECT DETECTION AND ASSESSMENT The present invention relates to a system and method for automated concrete defect detection and assessment. The system comprises an image acquisition unit, a processing unit, an image preprocessing module, a defect detection module, a classification module, a dimensional measurement module, a severity assessment module, a location mapping module, a storage unit, and a reporting module. Images of concrete structures are processed to identify and classify defects, including cracks, spalling, honeycombing, and exposed reinforcement. Defect dimensions are estimated using image analysis and available calibration information. Severity is evaluated using configurable assessment criteria, while detected defects are associated with structural locations and stored for subsequent comparison. An automated report presents defect classifications, measurements, severity categories, annotated images, and maintenance priorities. The invention facilitates systematic concrete condition assessment and supports infrastructure inspection, deterioration tracking, and maintenance planning.
