MUMBAI, India, July 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641083001 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Chennai on July 06, 2026, for System And Method For Bolt Loosening Detection And Monitoring From Metallic Structure.
Inventors include Sophin Sunil Mathew; M. Senthil Pandian; and S. Deepa Nivethika.
The application for the patent was published on July 10, 2026, under issue no. 28/2026.
Abstract: A system 100 to detect and report loosening of bolt 202 in a metallic structure 200 can includes an RFID sensor assembly 102 including outer split ring 104-A and inner split ring 104-B both installed together in same plane and separated by a di-electric material 106 disposed between; and a pair of passive RFID tag 108 configured to couple wirelessly when interrogated by an external RFID reader 110. When the two plates 206/208 are joined together and outer split ring 104-A and inner split ring 104-B aligned in their reference positions to make electromagnetic coupling with its adjacent RFID tag 108, and when a relative rotation between the two split ring resonators 104 happens that changes the electromagnetic coupling results in a shift in resonant frequency, and the shift in resonance frequency is processed and correlated for the amount of loosening that occurred in the joint.
