Abstract: ABSTRACT System and Method for Catalytic Steam Reforming of Heavy Crude Oil for Hydrogen Generation The present invention discloses a system and method for generating hydrogen-rich reformate gas from heavy hydrocarbon feedstocks through catalytic steam reforming in a packed-bed reactor (112). The heavy hydrocarbon feedstock is preconditioned by mixing with water and thermally conditioning the feed to improve flowability prior to reforming. The conditioned feed is delivered through a heated transfer arrangement to a packed-bed reactor (112) containing catalyst material supported on theta alumina, where steam reforming reactions generate hydrogen-rich reformate gas. The system further comprises temperature monitoring, pressure monitoring, flow control, vaporization, and backflow prevention arrangements configured to support stable high-temperature reforming operation. A downstream condensation and collection assembly (116) separates gaseous reformate products from condensable fractions. The catalyst material comprises monometallic, bimetallic, or trimetallic catalyst systems configured to improve hydrogen generation, reforming stability, and resistance to coke formation during processing of heavy hydrocarbon feedstocks.
