Abstract: A computer-implemented assessment system and method are disclosed for cognitive-level adaptive evaluation. The system includes a question and prompt authoring module for creating multimodal assessment questions associated with cognitive levels. A multimodal student response acquisition module receives answers in text, equations, images, and speech, which are processed by a multimodal normalization engine. A prompt selection engine dynamically generates question-specific evaluation prompts. A hybrid evaluation engine assesses responses by combining large language model reasoning and semantic embedding similarity. A score fusion engine aggregates scores, and an explainable feedback generation engine provides detailed feedback. A moderation module allows human instructors to revise scores, with adjustments used to improve future evaluations, enabling a scalable, paperless, and adaptive assessment workflow. [FIG. 1]
