The system may include the warehouse (104), a plurality of sensors ((106)), a controller (108), and an environment cooling system (110). The controlling operation of the environment 10 cooling system (110) is based on one or more control parameters and one or more input parameters received by the controller (108). The present disclosure employs principles of sensible cooling and air exchanges for preserving onions by maintaining the desired temperature range and desired relative humidity to maintain the quality of the stored onions by reducing heat and moisture stress and avoiding 15 damage to the onion stock due to weight loss, sprouting, rotting, spoilage, infestations, and other such losses.
