MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611108566 A) filed by Dr B R Ambedkar National Institute Of Technology, Jalandhar on September 10, 2026, for System And Method For Coordinated Heterogeneous Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Swarm With Decoy- Based Protection Against Radar-Guided Threats.

Inventors include Shrishti Chamoli; and Anupam Yadav.

The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.

Abstract: A system (100) and method for coordinating a heterogeneous unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) swarm operating in contested radar-threat environments is disclosed. The swarm comprises Worker UAVs (102) carrying payload cargo to a target location (108) and Guardian UAVs (104) equipped with an active radar signature magnification module (110) to lure radar-guided threats (106) away from Workers (102). A threat attraction module (112) evaluates threat perception based on radar cross-section, signature magnification, and inverse fourth-power distance attenuation. An optimization engine (114) optimizes trajectories using a composite cost function combining worker delivery error, worker fuel consumption, guardian threat attraction, and pairwise collision penalties, where guardian cost is formulated as a negated aggregate attraction to mathematically incentivize sacrificial decoy behavior. Optimization executes under a candidate-as-solution paradigm where each UAV is treated as an independent candidate evaluated cooperatively against personal-best strategies of other swarm members. A three-dimensional strategy space partitions a threat response parameter into role-specific regions, confining Workers (102) to lower values between one-tenth and three-tenths, and Guardians (104) to higher values between unity and two to enforce complementary protection and delivery behaviors. A simulation engine (116) validates collision-free threat neutralization and target delivery.
