MUMBAI, India, June 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641069210 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Chennai on June 02, 2026, for System And Method For Coordinated Structural And Behavioral Morphing In Biomimetic Aerial Vehicles.

Inventors include Ronak Madkaikar; and G. Murali Mohan.

The application for the patent was published on June 12, 2026, under issue no. 24/2026.

Abstract: A biomimetic aerial vehicle system (100) may include a body structure (102) and a wing assembly (104), wherein, the wing assembly (104) may include one or more flexible or deformable wing members to undergo real-time modification of wing morphology during flight. One or more actuation assemblies (106) may control wing motion and wing morphology, while one or more sensor units (108) may generate real-time operational data associated with flight and environmental conditions. A processing unit (110) communicatively coupled with the sensor units (108) and the actuation assemblies (106) to analyze operational data to generate coordinated control instructions for modification of wing morphology and flight behaviour. An energy regulation unit (112) operatively coupled with processing unit (110) to regulate actuation, sensing, or computational activity based on flight phase or available onboard energy to enable autonomous flight through coordinated structural and behavioural morphing without reliance on rigid airframes or propeller-based propulsion systems.
