MUMBAI, India, July 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411101182 A) filed by Mercedes-Benz Group AG on December 20, 2024, for System And Method For Detecting A Visibility Range Of Eyes Based On Reflections On Eyewear.
Inventors include Hiteshi Jain; Amit Srivastava; Anamika Jha; Chandan Varra; Disha Jain; and Shuaib Ahmed.
The application for the patent was published on July 24, 2026, under issue no. 30/2026.
Abstract: The present disclosure provides a system 202 and a method 600 for detecting a visibility range of eyes based on reflections on eyewear. The method 600 includes receiving 602 image frames of a user from sensors and detecting 604 eye metrics of each eye. Further, the method 600 includes detecting 606 that the eyewear is worn by the user based on the reception of the one or more image frames, predicting 608 that reflections on the eyewear overlap with a region of at least one eye, and correlating 610 the eye metrics and the visibility range of the at least one eye. Further, the method 600 includes determining that a value of the correlation is below a predetermined range to transmit an alert signal to the user. Therefore, the system 202 and method 600 overcome the limitations of existing systems that struggle with obscured eye metrics.
