MUMBAI, India, July 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411101845 A) filed by Mercedes-Benz Group AG on December 23, 2024, for System And Method For Determining Virtual Lanes To Navigate A Vehilce Through Congested Roads.
Inventors include Bharath Bhat; Vandana Sankanagoudar; Soumya Nandan; Varshini Premkumar; and Priyal Bafna.
The application for the patent was published on July 24, 2026, under issue no. 30/2026.
Abstract: The present disclosure provides a system (130) and a method (400) for determining virtual lanes to navigate a vehicle (100) through congested roads. The method (400) includes generating, by a processor (132), one or more virtual lanes based on a set of parameters received from sensors (120) and a destination of the vehicle (100), and determining a volatility factor (230) of the virtual lanes based on a set of object parameters associated with each object around the virtual lanes. The method (400) also includes determining a weight factor (235) for the virtual lanes based on the volatility factor (230) and/or a set of distance parameters, and selecting at least one lane (240) from the virtual lanes based on the weight factor (235) to navigate the vehicle (100) therethrough. The weight factor (235) enables selection of a virtual lane that is shortest from the destination, with minimal interventions from the objects.
