Abstract: Described herein is a system (100) and method for energy recuperation in a vehicle. The system (100) comprises a plurality of torsional springs (106) concentrically arranged within a housing (104) around a drive shaft (108) and supported on the drive shaft (108) at respective first ends and second ends of the plurality of springs (106). An actuation mechanism (210) selectively couples and decouples the first ends and the second ends of the plurality of springs (106) to any or both of the housing (104) and the drive shaft (108). A control unit (220) operatively coupled to a brake system (240) of the vehicle and the actuation mechanism (210) controls the actuation mechanism (210) to selectively couple one or more of the pluralities of torsional springs (106) to drive shaft (108) to store energy or use the stored energy.
