Abstract: SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR ESTIMATING MICROBIAL CONTAMINATION IN AN INDOOR ENVIRONMENT. Embodiments herein disclose an infection risk technique used to compute a spatio-temporal variation of infection probability in an indoor space. A system (102) and a method (100) employ techniques for estimating microbial contamination in an indoor environment. Embodiments herein disclose relative quanta exposure of a susceptible person over a period of time in a specified ventilation scenario. The relative quanta exposure is a ventilation metric irrespective of pathogen specific parameters, and hence provides a useful guideline to mitigate air-borne infection for a wide range of pathogen. The safe exposure time calculated from the infection risk technique provides a practical guideline to evaluate a given ventilation system and propose improvements in any indoor scenario. FIG. 1
