MUMBAI, India, July 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411097012 A) filed by Mercedes-Benz Group AG on December 09, 2024, for System And Method For Improving Peak Power Performance Of Internal Combustion Engine Of A Vehicle.
Inventors include Siva Swaroop Gutti; Sreekanth Madireddy; and Praveen Kumar Ramani.
The application for the patent was published on July 24, 2026, under issue no. 30/2026.
Abstract: A system and method for enhancing peak power performance of an internal combustion (IC) engine in a vehicle comprises a primary turbine (102) that receives exhaust gases from the IC engine, and an emission control device (106) that reduces pollutant concentrations before releasing the gases into the environment. An auxiliary turbine (108) is positioned between the primary turbine (102) and the emission control device (106). A bypass valve (114) allows for the direct supply of exhaust gases to the emission control device (106), bypassing the auxiliary turbine (108). The system (100) includes a sensor assembly (116, 118, 120) to monitor the operating temperature and pressure of the exhaust gases at the primary turbine’s outlet. A controller (122) manages actuation of the bypass valve (114) based on the monitored temperature and pressure to ensure optimal exhaust gas temperature at the emission control device (106).
