Abstract: A system for inspection robotics using onboard imaging and defect classification units is disclosed. The system comprises a robotic inspection device including a structural chassis assembly, a locomotion unit comprising independently controllable traction members, an onboard imaging unit including visible spectrum imaging sensors, infrared imaging sensors, depth sensing arrangements, and illumination projection arrangements configured to acquire synchronized structural inspection datasets corresponding to inspected machine surfaces. An image stabilization unit comprising inertial sensing arrangements and compensatory balancing actuators maintains optical alignment during robotic traversal across irregular structural regions. A defect classification processor processes the synchronized structural inspection datasets to identify structural abnormalities including crack formations, corrosion regions, coating degradation regions, weld deformation regions, erosion regions, thermal concentration zones, and material fatigue signatures. A structural mapping unit generates continuously updated three-dimensional topology datasets corresponding to inspected structures and detected defect coordinates.
