The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.
Abstract: Thepresent invention discloses asystem and method forlocalising aleak in awater distribution network (10) by active valve excitation that leaves service pressures substantially unchanged. A controller (20) applies a small calibration movement to each motorised valve (12), measures the pressure change at protected service locations (16) and forms a service-pressure Jacobian J (104). Diagnostic valve commands are projected into the null space of J (106), assigned mutually orthogonal time codes (108) and applied to all valves simultaneously (110). Pressure sensors (14) record the response (112), which is decoded by correlation with each code (114) into separate response channels. The decoded responses are compared with leak signatures derived from a hydraulic model for candidate locations (116), and the closest match is output as the leak location (118). In simulation, the leak was located in 22 of 22 trials with an 88.24 percent reduction in protected-pressure disturbance.
