MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621087836 A) filed by Altiora Strategic LLP on July 17, 2026, for System And Method For Optical Identity Authentication Of Physical Assets Using Laser-Formed Structures And Smartphone Imaging.
Inventor includes Shlok J. Gandhi.
The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.
Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for authenticating a physical asset by forming a plurality of laser-induced micro/nano-scale optical modification structures within or upon the asset, interrogating the structures with illumination, capturing a resulting optical response using an image sensor, extracting an optical identity representation from the captured response, and comparing a candidate representation with an enrolled reference representation using a similarity metric. In preferred embodiments, the captured response comprises one or more of scattering, diffraction, interference, polarization-dependent response and photoluminescence/ fluorescence. A sequence of captures obtained while relative position, orientation and/or illumination is varied may be evaluated for a corresponding dynamic optical response to support liveness and anti-replay verification. The enrolled identity may be protected using a cryptographic hash or commitment and associated with a digital identity registry, with a distributed ledger optionally storing a hash, signed authentication event, attestation or verifiable proof.
