Abstract: The present disclosure relates to system (100) for preventing hotspot formation in photovoltaic array configurations includes a plurality of photovoltaic modules (102) configured to generate electrical power and interconnected in at least one of a series, series- parallel, or total cross-tied configuration; an active bypass switch (104) electrically connected in parallel across at least one group of photovoltaic cells within each photovoltaic module (102) to provide an alternate current path for preventing reverse biasing and thermal stress; a voltage sensing unit (110) operatively connected across each photovoltaic module (102) and the array to continuously measure instantaneous module voltages and array voltage for real-time monitoring; a maximum power point tracking controller (108) electrically coupled to the array to determine a maximum power point and compute an average module voltage; a comparator unit (112) configured to detect mismatch conditions; a processor (116) configured to generate a control signal; a gate driver circuit (106); and an optocoupler (114) enabling isolated activation of the bypass switch.
