MUMBAI, India, July 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411096764 A) filed by Lovely Professional University on December 07, 2024, for System And Method For Real-Time Biofilm Detection Using Edge Ai In Portable Medical Devices.
Inventor includes Ashish Aggarwal.
The application for the patent was published on July 24, 2026, under issue no. 30/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to an Edge-AI algorithm designed for real-time biofilm detection in portable medical devices. The invention comprises a portable biofilm detection device equipped with a microscopic camera for capturing high-resolution images of surfaces. An integrated image processing unit preprocesses these images through noise reduction, contrast enhancement, and feature extraction to highlight biofilm structures and microbial markers. A deep learning module, specifically a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), is implemented within the device's computational unit to analyze the preprocessed images, enabling the detection and differentiation of biofilms from other surface contaminants. The Edge-AI computational unit executes the deep learning algorithm locally, ensuring real-time processing. The device includes a user interface for displaying detection results and a power management system to optimize energy use. This invention enables efficient image capture and processing for immediate biofilm detection, optimizing power use in portable medical devices.
