Abstract: A system and method for remote sensing-based quantification of erosion and accretion in alluvial rivers are disclosed. The system comprises an image acquisition interface configured to receive multi-temporal remote sensing datasets, a preprocessing processor configured to perform correction, calibration, normalization, and coordinate transformation operations, and a spatial registration processor configured to align temporally separated datasets within a common geospatial reference domain. A terrain reconstruction processor generates elevation representations corresponding to river channels and adjacent floodplains, while a channel boundary extraction processor identifies riverbank positions and channel geometries from the processed datasets. A change determination processor compares temporally separated channel boundary datasets to determine riverbank displacement, channel migration, bank retreat, and channel evolution characteristics. A sediment quantification processor calculates sediment removal and sediment deposition characteristics through comparative analysis of elevation representations. A hydrological correlation processor associates detected morphological changes with hydrological observations.
