MUMBAI, India, July 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641076804 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on June 21, 2026, for System And Method For Runtime Query Ambiguity Detection And Trust-Decomposed Response Generation In Retrieval-Augmented Systems.

Inventors include Priya G; and Shuhul Razdan.

The application for the patent was published on July 03, 2026, under issue no. 27/2026.

Abstract: A disagreement-aware retrieval and trust-decomposed response generation system (100) and method are disclosed. The system (100) comprises a document ingestion module configured to process documents and index content into keyword and semantic retrieval repositories. A keyword retrieval module and a semantic retrieval module independently retrieve document sets corresponding to a user query. A disagreement detection module compares the retrieved document sets using content fingerprints, computes a disagreement score, and classifies query ambiguity levels. A query refinement module generates a refined query when the disagreement score exceeds a predefined threshold. Retrieval outputs are combined through a fusion and reranking module to generate contextual evidence for a response generation module. A faithfulness verification module evaluates claims extracted from generated responses against retrieved contextual evidence. A trust decomposition module computes a multidimensional trust vector comprising retrieval agreement, context relevance, faithfulness, and completeness dimensions associated with the generated response.
