Abstract: A system (102) and a method (300) for semantic restoration of degraded ancient language inscriptions are disclosed. The system (102) receives inscription images from one or more physical mediums using an image preprocessing unit (108), applies noise reduction and contrast enhancement operations, and produces a processed image output. A damage classification unit (110) classifies physical degradation in the inscription images and determines a spatial extent of classified damage. An optical character recognition unit (112) extracts textual content from the processed image output, and a grammar normalization unit (114) generates a normalized text suitable for semantic processing. A generative restoration unit (116) performs semantic reconstruction of unrecognizable portions of the normalized text. A ranking and scoring unit (118) generates ranked restoration candidates with confidence scores, and a verification unit (120) validates the ranked restoration candidates against inscription metadata to reject and regenerate restoration candidates failing a predefined validity threshold.
