Abstract: A switched-capacitor inverter system (100) with common-ground configuration comprises a photovoltaic input configured to receive a DC input voltage (Vd) from a photovoltaic source, a common-ground terminal connecting a negative terminal of the photovoltaic source to a ground reference of an AC grid, a plurality of switched- capacitor cells comprising a first capacitor (C1), a second capacitor (C2), and a third capacitor (C3) configured to boost the DC input voltage, and a plurality of switches comprising a first switch (S1), a second switch (S2), a third switch (S3), a fourth switch (S4), a fifth switch (S5), a sixth switch (S6), a seventh switch (S7), and an eighth switch (S8) arranged to selectively connect the switched-capacitor cells to generate a multilevel AC output voltage having five voltage levels. The switched- capacitor cells provide a voltage boost of up to four times the DC input voltage and self-balance through pulse width modulation switching patterns. (FIGURE 4)
