MUMBAI, India, Aug. 12 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611069531 A) filed by Chandigarh University on June 03, 2026, for System And Method For Temporal Neuromorphic Olfaction Using Molecular Spike Dynamics.
Inventors include Shaman Sharma; Gurleen Kaur; Nistha; and Dr. Deepak Kumar.
The application for the patent was published on August 07, 2026, under issue no. 32/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a neuromorphic temporal-olfaction architecture for adaptive volatile intelligence using phase-separated spike dynamics. The system comprises a volatile molecular intake layer, a phase-separation microfluidic channel, a neuromorphic event encoder, and a hardware-deployed spiking neural network for biological-style scent classification. Airborne volatile compounds are physically separated based on molecular propagation characteristics to generate temporal arrival delays. The delays are converted into asynchronous neural spike trains representing temporal olfactory signatures. The spiking neural network processes the spike sequences to identify timing relationships and temporal scent patterns associated with specific volatile mixtures. A temporal scent grammar classification engine classifies compounds based on molecular time-of-arrival behavior rather than static concentration measurements. The invention provides low-power, noise-resistant, real-time olfactory intelligence suitable for healthcare diagnostics, environmental sensing, toxic gas monitoring, industrial safety, and adaptive artificial sensory systems.
