Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a system (100) and method (200) for underwater surveillance and detection of remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), marine mammals, ships, and ambient noise using advanced acoustic signal processing. Acoustic data is collected via an array of hydrophones (104) mounted on a floating platform (102) and processed to extract multimodal features, including Wavelet Scattering Transform representations and temporal or spectral features such as Power Spectral Density, Zero Crossing Rate, and Mel-frequency Cepstral Coefficients. These features are input into a Bi-Modal Cross-Attention Network (BiMCAN) comprising dual feature blocks and cross-model attention modules (112) that enable interaction between feature sets, generating enriched semantic representations. The combined features are pooled and classified by a softmax classifier (116) deployed on a compact embedded platform optimized for real-time operation. This innovative approach enhances detection accuracy, robustness, and efficiency, providing an effective solution for real-time underwater acoustic monitoring across diverse environments.
