Abstract: A system for using hardware-level encryption and adaptive transmission scheduling in embedded systems is disclosed. The system includes an embedded processing unit configured to acquire and process data from one or more data sources. The system includes a hardware encryption engine operatively coupled to the embedded processing unit and configured to perform hardware-based encryption of the processed data. The system includes a secure buffer memory configured to store encrypted data. The system includes a transmission scheduling engine configured to determine transmission schedules based on one or more communication parameters comprising network conditions, bandwidth availability, device workload, energy status, and data priority. The system includes a communication controller configured to prepare encrypted data for transmission according to the determined transmission schedules. The system includes a network interface configured to transmit the encrypted data to one or more external devices.
