Abstract: ABSTRACT SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR WIRELESS SENSOR NETWORK CONTINUITY-CONTROL AND RECONFIGURATION OVERHEAD REDUCTION A system (100) and method (200) for wireless sensor network continuity-control and reduction of network reconfiguration overhead during cluster-based communication are disclosed. The system (100) comprises wireless sensor nodes (102), cluster heads (104), a base station (106), a residual-energy monitoring unit (108), a network-energy normalization unit (110), a continuity-control unit (112), a reconfiguration-overhead estimation unit (114), and a routing-state persistence unit (116). The continuity-control unit (112) selectively retains a currently active cluster head (104) for successive communication rounds based on comparison between residual-energy parameters and normalized network-energy parameters to reduce cluster reconfiguration operations. The reconfiguration-overhead estimation unit (114) estimates communication overhead associated with cluster-head re-election, while the routing-state persistence unit (116) preserves routing-state information and cluster communication topology to reduce synchronization redistribution, neighbour rediscovery operations, and transmission-energy consumption within the wireless sensor network.
