MUMBAI, India, July 30 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621070117 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Science Education And Research Bhopal on June 04, 2026, for System And Methods For Enhancing Hydrogen Production In Water Electrolysis With An External Electric Field.
Inventors include Ijjada, Mahesh; Vishnu, Padinjarethil; and Tanwar, Deepika.
The application for the patent was published on July 24, 2026, under issue no. 30/2026.
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a system (100, 500) for enhancing hydrogen production in water electrolysis is disclosed. The system includes an electrolyzer (102) having an electrolysis chamber (116) containing an electrolyte (114) and a pair of electrodes (112). A DC power supply (110) is electrically coupled to the electrodes (112) and configured to apply a potential difference to initiate electrolysis. An electrostatic field generator (104) is positioned in proximity to the electrolysis chamber (116) and is configured to generate an external electric field using corresponding electrodes inserted in either of the electrolysis chambers. The external electric field interacts with an internal electric field generated by the DC power supply (110) to augment ionic transport within the electrolyte (114). This interaction results in increased current generation and an elevated hydrogen evolution rate.
