Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a process and a reactor system for preparing heavy bromide brine from bromine through a single-stage conversion process. The process includes preparing an aqueous mixture of water, a reducing agent, and a first portion of an alkali metal hydroxide selected from calcium hydroxide, sodium hydroxide, and zinc hydroxide in a reactor, followed by direct addition of liquid bromine under controlled low-temperature conditions. The rate of bromine addition is regulated, and a second portion of the alkali metal hydroxide is added to adjust pH and complete conversion upon reaching a reactor temperature of about 75 °C to form a salt bromide. The salt bromide is filtered to obtain heavy bromide brine. The disclosure further provides a reactor system with a jacketed reactor, cooling arrangement, scrubber unit, and filtration unit. The process eliminates acid by-products and produces heavy bromide brine having a density of about 1.45 g/ml to about 1.75 g/ml at 25 °C. FIGS. 1, 3, 4 and 5.
