MUMBAI, India, July 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611063243 A) filed by Nims University Rajasthan, Jaipur on May 19, 2026, for System Of Adhesive Mucosal Drug Delivery And Method Thereof.

Inventor includes N Swetapadma Rout.

The application for the patent was published on July 17, 2026, under issue no. 29/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a system (100) for adhesive mucosal drug delivery. The system includes an impermeable backing layer (102) configured to prevent drug diffusion away from a target mucosal tissue and an adhesive matrix (104). The adhesive matrix (104) positioned below the backing layer, and having a catechol-functionalized mucoadhesive polymer (104a) with at least one therapeutic agent (104b). The system further includes a tissue-contacting interface (106) includes a plurality of micro-pillars (106a) extending from the adhesive matrix (104). Then the micro-pillars (106a) are configured to penetrate a mucus layer (108), mechanically and chemically bonded to the mucosal tissue and thereby providing adhesion and drug release toward the mucosa. The invention is adaptable for use in pharmaceutical products, medical devices, and combination therapies, supporting applications in chronic disease management, pain treatment, wound care.
