MUMBAI, India, Aug. 17 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202521107322 A) filed by Pandit Deendayal Energy University; and Central Power Research Institute on November 06, 2025, for Tailored Two-Dimensional Mxene Nanostructures As Electrocatalysts For Hydrogen Evolution In Alkaline Media.

Abstract: MXenes, MXenes, a unique family of two-dimensional transition metal carbides, nitrides, and carbonitrides, have attracted significant interest as electrocatalysts due to their exceptional structural and physicochemical properties including large surface area, structural adaptability, electrochemical activity, and high hydrophiljcity. They exhibit notable durability, flexibility, and a high surface-to-volume ratio, enabling efficient energy transfer and rapid response. Traditional MXene synthesis via hydrofluoric acid (HF) etching faces challenges like toxicity, nanosheet restacking, and stability issues. To overcome these, we developed a molten salt-based MAX peroxidation method (MP-MXene) that enhances surface terminations and physicochemical properties of Ti3C2Tx MXene, resulting in improved electron transfer and catalytic performance. The electrocatalyst demonstrated enhanced hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) activity with an overpotential of 160 mV at 10 mA/cm2 current density and a Tafel slope of 48 mV/dec. Figure-1
