Abstract: *Abstract: The system is designed to mitigate cryptographic keys and other sensitive security parameters destruction through implentation of a tamper responsive power supply unit with a zeroization circuit. This is acheived through high-energy capacitive discharge to protect memory elements from ElectroStatic discharge (ESD) and cryptographic keys from abuse. This attacks include attempts to physically and electronically tamper with the system. The system has in-built sensors that monitor and detect tampering attempts determined by the presence of enclosure breaches or by unauthorized access attempts triggered by any of the following: breaches of voltage control, changes in temperatures, or by access attempts of the external system. If the system detects an attempt to tamper with the enclosed unit, it will eliminate unauthorized access and discharge a determined quantity of the stored energy from the system capacitor into the memory devices that contain and protect the cryptographic keys. Power supply is constructed and tailored not to include main power to the unit and there are other elements including memory, cryptography, or power that have been determined to contain tampering risks. This allows an unauthorized user the ability to not control or, to try to suspend, the discharge sequence. Furthermore, Power Supply units include redundant discharge paths, Triggering systems that have been designed and constructed to allow only safe termination and only controlled and monitored restarts when the system has been perniitted by the access control system. The tamper responsive hardened protective power supply unit to protect keys from unauthorized access also contains protective mechanisms to enhance cryptographic systems.
