Abstract: Abstract TITLE: Thermoplastic Starch Resin-Based Formulation And Natural Fibre Reinforced Biodegradable Flexible Composite Incorporating Said Formulation And Preparation Thereof The invention describes a thermoplastic resin-based formulation comprising thermoplastic starch (TPS) based gelatinized resinous mix of 4-7% (w/w) starch and 2.5-5% (w/w) plasticizer co-acting with 0.5-1 % (w/w) of anti-fungal agent; and 0.25-2.0 % (w/w) of lignocellulosic fibre based pulp, for enabling improved mechanical property with tensile strength, suitable for polymer matrices of a natural fibre reinforced biodegradable flexible composite material. The invention also provides a natural fibre reinforced biodegradable flexible composite and its method of fabrication, the composite comprising a compatible polymer matrices including the thermoplastic starch resin-based formulation of the invention reinforced by fibrous structure made of surface modified natural fibers including lignocellulosic and protein based fibres of 30 to 60wt% of the composite, in combination providing improved durability with tensile strength of 5-50 MPa in the cross direction and 6-30 MPa in the machine direction. The invention thus provides eco-friendly solution for packaging materials and life style products due to biodegradability of the composite and minimizes environmental impact.
