MUMBAI, India, June 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411088969 A) filed by Mercedes-Benz Group AG on November 18, 2024, for Tie Rod Assembly For A Steered Axle Of A Vehicle.
Inventors include Rakesh Mitra Vasireddy; and Dharmik Patel.
The application for the patent was published on June 12, 2026, under issue no. 24/2026.
Abstract: A tie rod assembly (100) for a steered axle of a vehicle includes a first tie rod portion (102) and a second tie rod portion (104), with the second tie rod portion telescopically configured inside the first tie rod portion (102), allowing for an in and out movement of the second tie rod portion (104), thereby altering the overall length of the assembly (100) and corresponding change in the toe angle of the coupled wheels. A toe adjustment nut (106) is rotatably fitted over the second tie rod portion (104), enabling telescopic movement when rotated in either direction. The toe adjustment nut (106) is coupled to an Active Nut Unit (ANU) (108), which incorporates a Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) spring (110). An electric current applied to the SMA spring (110) causes change in shape of the SMA spring to rotate toe adjustment nut (106), changing the toe angle.
