Abstract: 069] The present invention discloses a topical nanoemulsion spray composition comprising grape seed oil and kokum extract for reducing the appearance of skin hyperpigmentation. The composition includes grape seed oil, kokum extract, polysorbate 80, polyethylene glycol, carboxymethyl cellulose, sodium benzoate and distilled water in a stabilized nanoscale dispersion. In a preferred 50 ml formulation, the composition comprises about 2 ml grape seed oil, about 1 ml kokum extract, about 0.5 ml polyethylene glycol, about 0.5 ml polysorbate 80, about 0.2 g carboxymethyl cellulose, about 0.5 g sodium benzoate and quantity sufficient distilled water. The nanoemulsion is prepared by extracting kokum rind, forming a coarse emulsion and reducing droplet size by probe sonication. The optimized formulation exhibits nanoscale particle size, acceptable polydispersity index, suitable zeta potential, skin-compatible pH, uniform droplet morphology and hydrogen peroxide scavenging activity, thereby providing a stable, sprayable and non-greasy botanical composition for topical management of hyperpigmented skin.
