MUMBAI, India, Oct. 12 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641118903 A) filed by Easwari Engineering College on October 05, 2026, for Traffic-Signal-Integrated Algae-Based Air Purification System For Treatment Of Vehicle Emissions And Biomass Recovery.

Inventors include Pranavi R; Vaishunthra A; and Nivin Paul V.

The application for the patent was published on October 09, 2026, under issue no. 41/2026.

Abstract: ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION An integrated apparatus for air purification and biomass recovery utilizes a microalgae culture to mitigate environmental pollutants. The apparatus comprises a vertically elongated housing structurally configured for deployment at high-emission hotspots, such as municipal traffic junctions or industrial sectors. The housing encloses a multi-stage pre-filtration assembly fluidly coupled to a treatment chamber containing an aqueous microalgae culture. A mechanical air delivery drive forces polluted ambient air through a multi-directional fluid-gas contact mechanism into the culture, enabling biological mitigation of carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides, and sulfur dioxide alongside particulate biosorption. An integrated sensor array tracking pH, temperature, and optical density is communicatively coupled to an electronic control unit for automated closed-loop management of the culture. The treatment chamber features a conically sloping base terminating at a sludge drainage valve for the automated collection and recovery of sedimented algal biomass.
