MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641125343 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on October 21, 2026, for Transformation-Causal Contract-Based System For Safety-Gated Software Refactoring And Behavioral Equivalence Verification.

Inventors include Dhinesh Babu L D; and Ms Shabreena.

The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.

Abstract: ABSTRACT The present invention relates to a Transformation-Causal Contract based software verification system for safety-gated automated software refactoring and program transformation. The system generates a Transformation Semantic Fingerprint (Tf) representing structural, dependency, control-flow, data-flow, state, interface, and execution characteristics of a proposed transformation. A Causal Impact Analysis Engine identifies affected execution regions and causal dependencies, while a Behavioural Boundary Discovery Engine identifies protected behavioural boundaries. A Causal Permission Propagation mechanism assigns STRICT, CONDITIONAL, or TOLERATED permissions and propagates boundary-derived constraints through causal dependency paths. The system constructs a Transformation-Causal Contract and transformation-conditioned equivalence envelope, and generates Falsification-Directed Test stimuli to verify contract-specific behavioural conditions. Synchronized pre-transformation and post-transformation executions are semantically aligned for detecting and attributing causal divergences. Causal Boundary Witnesses and minimal counterexamples are generated for detected violations. A Safety-Gated Integration Engine selectively accepts, rejects, or escalates transformations based on contract compliance, causal coverage, falsification results, and divergence attribution.
