Abstract: ABSTRACT TRI-BODY SENSING NODE AND METHOD FOR MONITORING LIVE FUEL MOISTURE FOR WILDFIRE PREDICTION A wildfire-monitoring sensing node (110) mounted on a tree trunk includes a tissue electrode set (114) inserted into living stem tissue, an analog front end (122) measuring a multi-frequency impedance to provide a raw tissue signal, a microcontroller (130), and a wireless transceiver (150) transmitting data to a gateway. A moisture-blocked sealed inert reference body (116) provides a sealed-reference signal representing thermal drift, polarization drift, and electromagnetic interference. A porous wettable bark-mimic reference body (118), absorbing and releasing moisture at a rate matching natural bark, provides a wettable-reference signal representing surface conduction from dew and rain. The microcontroller (130) computes a compensated tissue signal by subtracting, from the raw tissue signal, a first coefficient times the sealed-reference signal and a second coefficient times the wettable-reference signal, estimating the second coefficient during rain or dew and the first coefficient during still, dry nights, without manual calibration.
