Abstract: The present invention relates to a triple-layer biodegradable polymeric biobead system for microbial encapsulation and controlled delivery in soil and environmental applications. The biobead comprises an inner alginate core encapsulating viable microbial cells, an intermediate pectin layer acting as a structural reinforcement and diffusion-modulating barrier, and an outer polylactic acid (PLA) layer forming a hydrophobic protective coating. The multilayer architecture enhances mechanical stability, protects microbial viability against environmental stress, regulates swelling behavior, minimizes burst release, and enables sustained and controlled microbial release over an extended period. The combination of hydrophilic and hydrophobic biodegradable polymers creates a synergistic encapsulation matrix with improved structural integrity and controlled biodegradation characteristics. The developed biobead system is suitable for agricultural, environmental, soil biofumigation, and biotechnological applications requiring efficient microbial delivery and prolonged functional activity.
